Not all carbs you eat are converted to energy

Not all carbs you eat are converted to energy

Carbohydrates need to be broken down into simple sugars before your body can absorb and convert them into ATP, the energy your muscles actually use. During training or racing, digestion and absorption can lag behind energy demand, leaving some of your ingested fuel unavailable when you need it most.

Accelerate breakdown, absorption and energy release from the carbs you consume

CARB ACCELERATOR contains key digestive enzymes, including Amylase and Alpha-Galactosidase, to support the breakdown of carbs you consume. The result is more efficient fuel conversion, steadier energy release, and less waste, so more of what you eat gets turned into real performance output.

Reduce GI distress during high carb fueling

High-carb fueling supports endurance performance, but large carbohydrate loads can ferment in the gut if not broken down efficiently. This can overwhelm digestion, causing bloating, discomfort, cramping and unplanned stops.

The CARB ACCELERATOR enzymes help break down carbohydrates in the upper digestive tract, supporting faster absorption while reducing the amount that reaches the lower gut where fermentation and discomfort can occur.

Phytonutrients including peppermint, ginger, and fennel complement this action, promoting smooth, calm digestion even during high-carb fueling.

The EDGE Study: Enzyme-Driven Gains in Endurance

If you are a high carb endurance athlete you can take part in the EDGE study to help understand how CARB ACCELERATOR impacts performance and GI comfort.

Sign up and we’ll send you a short screening questionnaire about your training, fuelling and gut comfort to see if the study is right for you.

Put it to the test

Selected athletes receive a free four-week supply of CARB ACCELERATOR. Use it alongside your usual fuelling during training or racing.

Share your experience

Tell us about your performance and gut comfort through short start and end surveys, two-minute weekly check-ins and a final call.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a clinical trial?

No. The EDGE Study is a structured field study - a real-world data collection exercise. We're gathering honest, structured feedback from real athletes under real conditions.

Who can take part?

Endurance athletes who already fuel at 60 g of carbohydrate per hour or more (80 to 120 g/hr preferred), train at least 6 hours a week, get GI symptoms at least occasionally at their current intake, and have a race or training block in the next 4 to 12 weeks. Selection is by the screening questionnaire. If you don't qualify for this wave you'll still receive a discount code and a place on the list for future waves.

What do participants get, and what do we ask in return?

Selected athletes receive a 4-week supply of Carb Accelerator free, with the option to extend to 12 weeks. In return we ask you to use it as directed without changing your existing fueling, complete a short baseline survey, answer a 2-minute check-in each week, complete a final survey, and optionally send a race report.

How do I take it during the study?

One capsule with your pre-session fuel. Optionally one during training or racing if you experience gut discomfort while fueling. One with your recovery meal after the session. Keep your gels, drinks and chews exactly as they are - the study measures the effect of adding the enzymes, not changing the fuel.

What are enzymes and why do they matter for endurance athletes?

Digestive enzymes help your body break down carbohydrate, fat and protein so the fuel you take on becomes usable energy instead of discomfort. Faster breakdown in the upper gut means better absorption, less fermentation lower down, and more consistent performance on long runs or rides.

What's inside?

Each capsule contains amylase, alpha-galactosidase, lipase, protease, papain, trypsin and bromelain, with fennel seed, ginger root extract and peppermint leaf to support digestion. The capsule shell is vegetable cellulose. Full amounts per capsule are on the product page.

Are there any allergens?

Yes, and the screening questionnaire will ask about them. Papain contains sulphites. Trypsin may contain gluten, dairy and soy. Alpha-galactosidase may contain gluten. If you have any of these allergies you cannot take part in the study.

Can I take it with other sports supplements?

Yes. Carb Accelerator is designed to be used alongside your carbohydrate drinks, gels, chews, real food and recovery shakes. It is a fueling enabler, not a replacement for any of them.

How is my data used?

Your questionnaire and check-in responses are stored securely and used only for this study. We publish aggregated, anonymised results. We will only quote you by name with your explicit permission, and you can withdraw at any time.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Then that is what we report. People produce different levels of digestive enzymes, so there will be responders and non-responders. Neutral and negative results go into the published findings alongside the positive ones. There is no obligation to continue or to buy anything.
